Dr Kirkham graduated in 1990 with an M.B.; B.S. degree from the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Sydney. He then did his Orthopaedic registrar training, finishing in 1998, under the direction of both The Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) & the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS)

In the same year Dr Kirkham was awarded the Zimmer Orthopaedic Travelling Fellowship Prize by the AOA; and then undertook a further 12 months of post-doctoral fellowship training in Hand & Upper Limb Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Texas. A proud addition to his knowledge is a diploma in Microvascular surgery, which has enabled him to reattach several patient’s fingers and even two wrists.

Dr Kirkham has been in private practice in North-West Sydney since 2000. He did 10 years work at Westmead public hospital as a VMO, directing the Hand Surgery Syllabus – teaching registrars, nurses, therapists and medical students. He now works exclusively in private practice.

Dr Kirkham has also been given the opportunity to speak at many local, state, national & overseas conferences. His original research is published in peer-reviewed international journals and has won prizes. He continues to evolve these ideas and to give regular presentations at local, national & international conferences. He’s involved in the teaching of registrars, GP’s, nurses, allied health & students, and is currently working on several research projects.

An active member on the executive committee of the Ku Ring Gai District Medical Association, Dr Kirkham has also served as honorary secretary in 2004-2005 on the NSW Hand Surgery Association Inc.
