Our Commitment to Sustainability
Pittwater Day Surgery is committed to reducing our environmental impact and embedding
sustainability into all aspects of our clinical and operational practices. We aim to support
healthier people and a healthier planet by aligning with national and NSW Health
sustainability goals.
What We're Doing
Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
-
Tracking and reporting energy and emissions
-
Switching to Total Intravenous Anaesthesia (TIVA) where possible to reduce reliance on high-impact anaesthetic gases like desflurane
-
Promoting energy-efficient practices and equipment (e.g. LED lighting, HVAC optimisation)
Waste Reduction
-
Improving waste segregation at the point of use (clinical, general, recycling)
-
Reducing reliance on single-use items where safe and practical, noting that legislation requires the use of certain single-use plastics; however, these have been removed wherever possible.
-
We have now introduced Recycle Smart, they pick up our soft and hard plastics, e-waste and more!
Commercial waste — RecycleSmart
Water & Energy Efficiency
-
Monitoring usage
-
Encouraging power-down practices when closed
Sustainable Purchasing
-
Prioritising eco-friendly suppliers and low-impact products
